Small Business Saturday... Supported by Barker Proudlove

Small Business Saturday... Supported by Barker Proudlove

The importance of shopping independent has never diminished across our retail environments. These retailers and operators have been the most important in bringing uniqueness and a local feel to our shopping spaces.

For the past 7 years, Small Business Saturday has been a day that focuses on highlighting to all the importance and joy of supporting and shopping independent. Each year Small Business Saturday has grown bigger and bigger and last year, spending with small businesses increased by 8% compared to the year before.

Barker Proudlove have had the honour of working with a large density of independents over the past several years and it has been a joy to see so many succeed. This year we’ve worked with many independents on pop up shops, opening the doors to their first physical space and with expansions! We are so excited to see these businesses open their doors to their local communities and grow their success.

In the approach to Small Business Saturday, Barker Proudlove would like to highlight several independents across a handful of our schemes that we would encourage everyone to visit and support where possible!

1. The Dispensary, Walkden

The Dispensary may have only opened their doors permanently only several weeks ago, but this shop is already a huge success! In Salford, this zero-waste shop is the first of its kind and offers eco friendly goods and sustainable gifts. There is plenty to find as a treat for yourself or as a gift for others running up to Christmas!

The Dispensary can be located in Walkden Town Centre, M28 3ZH

2. Hill & Hill The Jewellers, Altrincham

In August this year, this exquisite jeweller opened its doors. With an array of different brands there is something for everyone. The team are also a delight and available to answer any questions both with old jewellery and new purchases. Unlike the typical jewellers, the interior design of the shop is detailed, with a homely feel and incredibly inviting for all.

3. Violet Loves Vintage, Altrincham

Another lovely find in Altrincham is Violet Loves Vintage. Rachel runs a beautiful women’s clothing shop which is inspired by the 1940s & 50s. Her styles and range of stock means there is something for everyone! We love seeing the creativity of her shop and can’t wait to see what 2020 holds for Violet Loves Vintage!

Violet Vintage can also be located in Altrincham Town Centre, WA14 1RF

4, 5 & 6. Shop Indie, Rate Cute & Nana B Boutique, Chesterfield

Chesterfield has presented huge opportunity this year for independents to dip their toe into the waters of opening their own shop. Earlier this year Rate Cute were the first to open their doors offering the opportunity to shop a variety of independents and vintage goods all under one roof.

Second came Shop Indie who offer a variety of gifts and décor all by UK independents, and thirdly Nana B Boutique have just recently opened their doors offering adorable children’s clothing.

All of these independents deserve a shout out in their own right, as they have taken on the opportunity to provide a local and quality offering to the shoppers of Chesterfield to enjoy shopping local and find new makers and passion for local craft. We hope in the run up to Christmas as many people as possible can find the time to support independents like these guys who are showing why our local town centres can be and will continue to be as exciting to visit as the big cities for retail therapy.

Shop Indie, Rate Cute & Nana B Boutique can be found on Steeplegate, Chesterfield, S40 1PY

7. Newsha Beauty Salon, Cramlington

Newsha Beauty Salon are a great example of a growing independent! The salon started in a smaller shop and has just moved to a larger premise to support their growing business in Manor Walks. The team offer various beauty treatments as well as sunbeds. With party season upon us now is the perfect time to support this independent salon.

Newsha Beauty Salon can be located in Manor Walks, Cramlington, NE23 6UT

8. The Longford Tap, Stretford

Plenty of people are talking about Stretford at the moment, and the reason is because of the fabulous offering here! This year has seen plenty of exciting openings and The Longford Tap is one of them! Open 7 days a week this lovely bar offers local craft ales, wine, spirits and coffee with plenty of entertainment and events too. When visiting from Manchester city centre, Stretford is just a short tram ride away and Longford Tap is well worth the trip!

There are many other independents we would love to shout and scream about that we love visiting and are excited to see grow even bigger next year. Be sure to provide any support you can to independents on the run up to Small Business Saturday and in particular on the run up to Christmas. Even if you follow a page, like a post or share the business with your friends that support can go a long way!

Barker Proudlove are thrilled to support independents all year round, and we want to congratulate American Express for Small Business Saturday and the success they have had from this.
